You Should Hire Contractors for these Jobs

I’m a big fan of Do It Yourself projects. Just search You Tube and find a video that will show you how to do it.

Should I Hire a Professional?

But you really should hire a professional contractor for some jobs.

Plumbing

Most of the time a permit is required. If you don’t notice the small leak, significant damage can be done to your house. As with electric, let a professional do the job.

Electrical Work

Let’s make this simple. Unless you absolutely know what you’re doing, don’t so it. It’s not worth it. Most electrical work will require an electrical permit. And then it gets inspected. If the work is not done properly serious damage can occur to the devices plugged into the circuit or even cause a fire

Tree Trimming or Removal

Have you ever met Mr. Murphy? The one who says “Anything that can go wrong, probably will”?

Working with a chainsaw is dangerous. A small slip can cause you to lose a finger hand or even worse. And can you guarantee that a tree will fall where you want it to? Or will it land on your car, your house, the cable or electrical wires or you ?

Removing interior walls.

This sounds like an easy project, doesn’t it? Simply remove the sheet rock and the studs. Piece of cake, right?

But what if it’s a bearing wall? Is there electric in the wall? I watched someone use an electric saw to remove sheet rock and he cut right through an electric wire. It could’ve been worse if he had cut through a plumbing supply pipe. Is there Heating and ventilation HVAC in the wall?

At the least, have a professional check out the wall to be sure it’s a feasible idea.

Flooring

Anybody can remove carpet, if that’s what you have. But installing hardwood, laminate or tile requires a certain skill set. You’ll need to learn what type of preparation you’ll need under the finished product. You’ll need to remove and replace the base molding to do the job properly. Besides, if it’s not done correctly, it will not look good.

Pool repairs or installation

If you try to repair the liner or leaking pipes you can cause more damage. Pool repairs are not usually a DIY project.

I’m always doing projects around my house. I encourage other people to do projects also. But sometimes it’s better to hire a professional contractor to do the job
