It’s Good to be 65

I recently reached my 65th birthday. I feel very fortunate that I made it. And there were a few times when I didn’t think I would. And many people might think getting old like this is a bad thing. I don’t. I find there’s lots of benefits to being 65. Here’s a few.

Senior citizen discounts. Many restaurants and many other places offer a senior citizen discount. Okay – I’m not proud, I’ll take it.

I went to the county fair recently, and saw a sign at the ticket booth that said senior citizens over 65 get free entry. So I didn’t have to pay to get in anymore. All I need do is show my driver’s license.

But here’s the benefit that’s the big deal to me.

Prior to turning 65 my health insurance was through Obamacare. It was costing me over $700 a month for a very bad policy where I had to pay a very high deductible before insurance would start paying anything. Now I have Medicare. The cost of Medicare is a fraction of what I was paying under Obamacare. And it’s a much much better policy.

And I found out that along with Medicare and my supplemental mental plan I get a free gym membership at the YMCA. So I can go use the gym pretty much whenever I want. And I can use the indoor pool at the YMCA when mine is closed for the winter.

Is this a great country or what?
