Keeping Deer Out of your Yard

Do you have deer coming in your backyard? I do, that is I used to.

Our property has a creek at the backyard edge of our property, on the other side is county owned property which is wetlands. The property is home to a herd of deer. I’ve seen as many as 27 or 28.  And when they have eaten everything that’s over there then they come into my backyard looking for or food.

Why mine? Because I don’t have a 6-foot fence around my home property. And I don’t have it because I like the view of the woods and especially the creek. And even when there is food in back, all the flowers I have planted in my backyard make a very nice delicacy for those deer. So when I go to bed there’s a full set of flowers, and when I wake up there’s just stems.

Needless to say I don’t appreciate dear coming in my yard. So I had to come up with different ways to get them out. Sounds and bright lights didn’t work for very long at all. I tried using some of the deer repellent spray, it worked relatively well until it rained. And I had to put it on again, and again.

Then Bunny read about something and we gave it a try. We took an old t-shirt and cut it up and made small bags. Into the banks we put a half of a bar of Irish Spring soap. Bunny read that the deer do not like the scent that the Irish Spring soap.

So we tried it. I hung the bags up on various trees around the perimeter of the property. I have not seen a deer in my backyard yet and it’s been close to four months. And my grandchildren can go out and play in the backyard, I don’t have to worry about them stepping into deer poop.

If you have an issue with deer, give it a try. And let me know if it works
