Options For Roofing Materials

I ran out of room in my shed for my lawnmower. So L’m trying to build a garage for it.. Pretty simple garage I’m building using 2×4 frames with sheets of plywood for the three sides. But then I needed to figure out what to do about the roof.

A sheet of plywood with paint won’t last, I would need to paint it every year. And I’m too lazy to do that. So I went down to the local hardware store – you know the one with the orange sign, to look for various materials to see what was there. First I saw something which was a little bit of over kill for me. But it looked nice. When installed it will look like the red tile roofs that you see in Florida on homes. But it’s going to be inexpensive. The thing I like best, is that it comes with a lifetime guarantee. Put it on there and forget about it. They have a lower-cost alternative which is plastic, a semi transparent material. It goes on in the same type of way. And that would work just fine. I would need two sheets at $15 each.

While on the subject of roofing, there’s a 55 plus community near me that we do a lot of business in. It’s condo ownership. The association is responsible for maintaining the roof. What they’re doing now is they had someone come in and they spray a new coating on to the existing roof. This is supposed to extend the life of the existing roof  and will be much more cost-effective. I will be watching this to see how well this lasts over the years.
