Spring clean your bills.

It’s springtime. Grass and flowers are growing, birds are singing and everyone has the urge to clean everything up. Maybe you should do the same with your bills.

Here’s a few ideas to get your monthly bills reduced a little.

Programmable thermostat. Your heating and air conditioning is a major expense in your home. It can also be a major source of wasting electric. With a programmable thermostat you can keep your home at the right temperature when you’re there and automatically reduce your energy usage when you’re not there. And they’re convenient. With a programmable thermostat you can set your heat and AC to turn on and off at specific times during the day. They also cycle quicker, which means that in the  winter the heat doesn’t go as low before it turns back on. This would result in energy savings for you. To take it a step further,  try a smart thermostat which learns from your living habits.

Refrigerators and freezers also use a lot of energy. Keep the doors open for the shortest amount of time possible and make sure that you have closed the door tight. As to your freezer make sure you defrost it. Better yet invest in a new freezer. They are typically much more efficient and will pay for themselves over time in energy savings.

You can also try to save on your cable TV bill. If you were in an area where there is more than one cable TV provider, shop them around. Pit one against the other and try to negotiate a lower rate for your cable. And if they won’t budge on the pricing, think about switching. There are many options available besides cable TV. There are a number of companies that Supply TV programming over satellite dish, and like many of the younger generation, simply cut the cord and get your TV via streaming over the internet.

And last, don’t forget that if you have any old incandescent light bulbs, get rid of them and replace them with LED lighting. It will save a bundle.
