You are ready to start looking for your new home. But before you start driving around or browse the Internet, there are a few things you should do first. And by doing these things, you can increase the odds of being successful in finding a new home.

Speak with a Mortgage Professional

In order to find a home, you need to know exactly home much you can afford. So speak with a professional and get Pre-Approved. It won’t take long and won’t cost you anything. But at the end, you will know whether or not you can get a mortgage, and if yes, for how much. You will also learn how much cash will be required. Then you will know what price range to look in.

Be Prepared to Move Quickly

When you find your dream home, there will probably be others looking at it also. There is still a shortage of homes for sale. And especially so if you are in the price range of a starter home. If you wait, they may grab it before you do. So when you see what you want, don’t delay. Have your Realtor write a contract.

Make a Strong Offer

Make a strong offer so that the seller takes you seriously. Ask your Realtor to prepare a Market Analysis for the home. This will tell you what similar homes for sale in the area are asking and what homes have recently sold for.

Be Prepared for the Negotiations to Begin!

Unless you are making a full price offer, the seller will probably come back to you with a counter offer. This is normal.  But the price is not the only thing to be negotiated. The closing date also comes into play. You may need to adjust the closing to what the seller wants. And this is the step where the Pre-Approval comes into play. You will need to submit that to the seller along with a contract to show you are qualified to buy the property.
