Why Do People Move to Other States?

I receive lots of real estate-related articles sent to me via my email. I do my best to read all of them that comes through, and some of the interesting ideas I pass along to the readers of my blog. Here’s one that recently came through.

This particular article was about a poll that was conducted. The poll was asking people why they moved to a different state. Here are the reasons.

Of the people who moved to another state, 41% of people moved for a better job opportunity. 25% moved for health reasons. An additional 52% moved because they want a better climate or better weather. Also, 18% of people who move to a different state move to be closer to friends, and 36% moved to be closer to their family. And then the largest remaining segment was 16% of people moved to be closer to their significant other.

Now I used a calculator and it told me that if you add up all of these percentages, it total to 188%. Is it possible to have 188%? I don’t think so. The only thing I can think is that respondents to the poll may have had the option of selecting multiple reasons.
